New Wine Country Pastels
After visiting Napa/sonoma wine country I was inspired to put mountain art aside for awhile and paint the beautiful countryside of northern California. It is inspirational to all that love to grow gardens and love the farmlands. Of course it is inspirational to wine lovers.
While in Napa I was able to visit many of my favorite wineries and some I had never heard of. One of those was Arista where we enjoyed the incredible gardens and out of that was the art piece of the chairs and wine barrels and the landscape looking to the mountains.
I loved the peju winery. They have art all over in the gift shop and the gardens with sculpture were amazing. I painted the building from Peju with its fabulous European design.
The ironhorse winery made for a delightful piece of art. The rolling hills with the fall vines were so beautiful. The wine tasting is done on a old wood board and I enjoyed the atmosphere of a little wine tasting while looking over the harvested vineyards.
I painted a couple of pictures that have no name…,the Barn in Napa and the tall Italian building. After being in Italy several times the wineries in California compare in beauty and the flavors of California wines are hard to beat. We felt like we had flown to italy while eating the food at Willi’s wine bar and tasting the flavors from local growers.
All of my giclee printing is done by VANGOGHAGAIN in Broomfield, and my framing is done by Tim Tripp of Grizzley Creek framing. Together we are coming up with some beautiful designs and products that I am happy to present .
Tim and his wife, Craig Cranston and myself have brainstormed a new line coming out with the wine art that we will present on the website soon. We are working on the prototypes now and the name of the company we will announce soon. To think
this was all born out of one little trip to wine country is really cool. You know what God says:
Make plans counting on God to direct your path…what fun is that!
Keep checking in to the blog because I am putting my schedule together for the upcoming classes. Those classes will be in pastel and pencil including some life drawing sessions. We will hire a model to do figurative classes. Because of the location of the classes the models will be at least draped for a more modest approach to life drawing but we will still learn so much about the human figure.
I hope you all enjoy Christmas and the new year. We look forward to a prosperous new year !!!! That is an understatement.

Happy New Year 2010 Schedule of events for Art at Jackstraw
This year I am making plans to hold monthly workshops. Those will be out of my home and we will have accommodations for overnight and meals to go with the package. I live at the top of a mountain with a view that is awesome. We can paint on the deck or if it is nice we can hike for plein air class in the National Forest. For evening dinners we will have various gourmet dishes. The bedrooms all have private baths. Thus, this is the new idea in classes to be hosted by the artist in a B&B environment. I would love it if you consider now since I will have classes of not more than 4 at a time to maintain a very private lesson feel. These will be starting in July thru October. Accommodations, meals, and a three day workshop will be 950.00. Please email me if you are interested NOW so I can plan ahead for these months.
New on the Blog will be a series of Baldy Mountain Art from right here in Grand Lake. I am still waiting on the new CD to arrive so I can download those on the site. I am excited to offer the prints and originals of the series of moods including summer, spring, fall, and winter as the mountain changes over the lake. Actually, this made an awesome study for me this year in developing more depth and mood thru the use of pastel.
On the design front some of the most wonderful projects have just completed including a Parade of Homes in Fraser, Colorado. That did so well with judges and won peoples choice awards for design and furnishings.
I loved working for two years with the clients on both the construction and the furnishings for
their home.
The Snowberry Inn is almost completed as well in Fraser. What a great remodel that turned out to be. The Inn will open for corporate events and small weddings. Scott Munn, architect did the structural design and then we took over with interior specification work.
I am working in Denver several days a week on several other remodels and that must be the trend. New construction is down and remodeling is up! I have the pleasure of working on a home for some clients who remodeled their home in Grand Lake and now we can work together on the newest remodel in Denver.
Well, that is the business news for now. I think it would be wise to do this more often !!
